This private tour combines the history of henequen, the colonial town of Izamal and an optional swim in a small cave cenote.

The day starts at a historic hacienda where you can see how henequen was processed and learn about the role it played in the history of Yucatán. The tour of the hacienda takes around two hours, including the still-functioning factory, where the henequen fibre is processed on a regular basis.

From the hacienda, we continue to Izamal, the yellow city and a place where pre-Hispanic, colonial and contemporary Yucatán come together. We guide you through the historic centre, including the Convent of San Antonio de Padua and Kinich Kakmó, one of the largest Maya pyramids in the region, standing at the heart of what was once one of the most powerful religious and political centres in northern Yucatán, long before Chichén Itzá reached its peak. There is also an opportunity to see some of the local crafts made from henequen, which has been an important part of the area's history.
